Changing aspirations, Reigniting old passions, and Looking to the future.

Over the last couple of months I have found my focus shifting.  Societies obsession on ‘living in the moment’ has been a driving force in my decision making for the past 5 years. But with this I have also been afraid of limiting myself – like deepening my knowledge in one area would block off something else that I wanted to learn.

Now aged 22, I feel like a know a little about a lot of things and I need to do some pruning. Finding the dead or dying branches that I can cut in order to allow the healthy parts to grow strong and become fruitful in the next few years.

My Intentions and their 'why'

Writing my book draft

Since I finished my GCSE’s at 15 I have had no reason to do any fiction writing. Storytelling and creative writing is something that I always looked forward to doing when I was in school, so for that younger version of myself, I feel like it is about time to pick up my pen (or open up my laptop) and try and write something. With the help of a couple of online articles, I am currently coming up with my idea and doing some planning with the hope of doing a NaNoWriMo-Style intensive write starting part way through November to put together my first draft.

Starting my degree in Design and Innovation

In February, I will be starting my degree in design and innovation. For the past 4 year I have been working on the periphery of a Research and Development department. Watching new ideas and products pouring out of the minds of the designers, seeing how they develop has inspired me. Knowing that from one good idea something that could change the world can be made, I want to learn and build the toolkit to allow me to do this.

Making my own clothes and gifts for my loved ones

Reducing my environmental impact, through making, fixing and reinventing the clothes I have to fit me, my style and current trends, means I buy less clothes brand new and send less clothes to landfill. Also, being able to make someone a totally one-of-a-kind gift that is exactly what they wanted or had envisioned makes me feel a lot more fulfilled than just buying them something that they like.

Restarting my website

I want something to look back on and for others to learn from. Whether I am reflecting on past projects, remakes of past makes or looking at my writing or my experience of my degree I would love to be able to reflect on this time. It may be a little ambitious to declare weekly uploads for this blog, but why not. They may not be the best written or have the prettiest pictures but they will be here for me to reminisce on later.
